TATTOO FAQ

Tattoo faq answers many of the common questions you may have about tattooing and the processes of getting tattooed.

-What should I do in preparation to getting tattooed?

We recommend you get good rest before coming in to get tattooed. It’s also important to hydrate with plenty of water before getting tattooed. The health of your skin by hydration will make the ink go into your skin without issues which will make your tattoo better looking now and in the long term.

-How old do you have to be to get tattooed?

In the state of Illinois you must be at least 18 Year’s old to get tattooed.  Sorry there is not a stipulation for parental consent on tattooing.

-What do I need to bring with me to be tattooed?

You must provide us with a valid ID or driver’s license for proof of age and also to complete the release form process.

-What forms of payment do you accept?

Shred’s Inferno accepts cash, credit/debit, Zelle, and ApplePay to pay for your new tattoo. Sorry we do not trade for items or services.

-Do you have any discounts on tattoos?

We have giveaways and promotions on our social media. Facebook/Instagram @shredsinferno.

-Does Shred’s Inferno offer body piercing?

NO WE DO NOT OFFER PIERCING!

-What kind of parking is around your tattoo studio?

There is plenty of free street parking on 63rd street. No meters yet! We recommend parking on the north side of 63rd street (the side we are on) because there is no parking on the south side of 63rd street from 4-7PM on weekdays. There isn’t any restrictions to park on any of the side streets around the tattoo studio so feel free to park there also.

-Is there any public transportation?

Yes, you can take the orange line to midway airport then you can walk 8 blocks to the shop or if walking isn’t your thing, there is a bus terminal right outside of the orange line station with bus service to our front door. Cabs/Uber are also available near the orange line station.

-Does your tattoo shop use sterile equipment?

Shred’s Inferno uses new equipment including tattoo needles, tubes, and ink in proper packaging for you to see. We also create a sterile field to work on using the proper barriers/covers to insure the safety of your health while in our care.

-What qualifications do your artists have?

Every tattoo artist that works at Shred’s Inferno has their certification in blood borne pathogens specific to tattooing which is renewed yearly as directed by the Illinois Department of Health along with at least 3 years of (in studio) tattoo experience. Shred’s Inferno also carries a current special use business license from the City of Chicago to perform tattooing and a current Illinois Department of Health License for tattooing.

-What kind of tattoos do you offer or specialize in?

The tattoo artists at Shred’s Inferno pride themselves in offering custom one of a kind tattoos. Some of the styles we are well versed in include, portrait tattoos, realism tattoos, old school traditional tattoos, color bomb tattoos, high contrast black and gray tattoos, religious tattoos, watercolor/no outline tattoos, bio-mechanical tattoos, geometric tattoos, and many other popular tattoo styles. We also have a Native American artist that offers hand needled tattoos that are spiritual in nature. We are the only tattoo shop in Chicago that offers this type of tattooing.

-How do I set up an appointment?

Appointments are set up by coming in and having a consultation with one of our tattoo artists. A tattoo consultation is the best way for the client and artist to get acquainted and to truly let your artist get a feel for the tattoo you are looking for. It is important for the tattoo artists at Shred’s Inferno to get off on the right foot with your experience by having as much information as possible about the vision of what you want. Consultations can be done at any time during our normal business hours. A deposit is required to reserve your appointment which goes towards the final price of your tattoo.

-How far out are the tattoo artists booked?

Although some of our tattoo artists have a wait to get in, we also have tattoo artists that take walk-ins. It is highly recommend that you make an appointment.

-What is your pricing?

The price of a tattoo is a question everyone wants to know and there is no “set” price for a tattoo. Ultimately the price of a tattoo is gauged by the amount of work that is being done. The time it takes is the biggest factor in what a tattoo will cost.

-How do I get a price on a tattoo?

The only way to get a price for a tattoo is for the artist to have a complete idea of what you want. The way to achieve this is to come in and consult with an artist. Phone calls do not work to give us the full picture we need so we do not give prices in those situations.

-Do you do small tattoos and what’s the minimum price?

We do any tattoo, big or small. Shred’s Inferno’s clients are important no matter what size tattoo you want. Our shop minimum is $100.
