FINDING AN EXPERIENCED TATTOO ARTIST
Why it’s important to find an experienced tattoo artist
It might seem slightly foolish to openly declare that seeking out an experienced tattoo artist is, in fact, a crucial idea, but what really constitutes an experienced tattoo artist? To begin with, being a talented artist stands out as the most essential qualification for anyone in the tattooing profession. A true artist has dedicated countless hours to both drawing and learning the intricate craft of being an artist. While some learn through formal classes, others develop their skills independently by studying the work of established artists in order to absorb various techniques. These committed artists are undeniably far superior to the "doodler" who may sketch a few simple designs and then hastily claims to possess true skill. Personally, I devoted many years of my life to drawing daily in order to achieve a high level of understanding and mastery of art. It is important to realize that this level of proficiency is not something that can be developed overnight or without significant effort.
Another critical reason to consider the importance of experience lies in the fact that an experienced tattoo artist has the invaluable ability to observe how their past work has healed and how it has stood the test of time as years go by. A tattoo artist with merely one year of experience simply cannot provide you with accurate insights on how your tattoo will age or look after 15 to 20 years, as they lack the necessary body of work from which to make such judgments. Personally, I truly began to notice how my tattoos were holding up around the 15-year mark in my own journey as a tattoo artist. I learned immensely through my interactions with clients who would show me tattoos I had done in previous sessions. This ongoing feedback allowed me to benefit and improve, adjusting my techniques after observing my work as the years progressed.
Additionally, an experienced tattoo artist is often someone who has been apprenticed under another qualified and skilled tattooer. This apprenticeship greatly accelerates the learning process, as opposed to navigating the challenges of tattooing independently and having to experiment with various techniques that could be incorrect and potentially lead to poor-quality tattoos. In summary, an experienced tattoo artist possesses a deep and comprehensive knowledge of art, has benefited from the mentorship of a qualified professional, and has diligently analyzed their work over the years to ensure that each piece ages as beautifully as it should. I truly hope this provides the average individual with a clearer understanding of what truly makes a tattoo artist experienced in their craft.
